Have you ever wanted to play as a can?  Have you ever wanted to fight a can? Have ever wanted to see a can show it's true power? No? Just me?  Well either way, in this game you get to experience it all!

-            -           -

Here you get block, punch and kick your way to victory against another person in local co-op (can on can).

-           -           -

So what are you waiting for, get in the game, crush some cans, and you might just become the champion of the Candemonium.

This game idea was inspired by games like the original Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter games that you could play in arcades. We also wanted to borrow the idea of having special abilities from Mortal Kombat as we thought that having a Sprite, sorry, SPITE (trademark pending) fighting another can with pure can bursting anger would be an interesting and entertaining idea. So, what are you waiting for, get in the game and crush some cans!

Below is a layout of who did what during the development of the game:

Caleb:

This is the first song which I made, I would like to imagine that this would be playing while your in the middle of a fight.

This is the second song which I made, I imagine this song to be playing as you load into the game and you are in the menus.

Below is the link to the Figma board which I made for the group to edit and add ideas to, here you can see how we put together the idea for the game as well as how we would want the controls to work, plus other things like the core game loop, a list of the different Canacters in the game, Mechanics, a few iterations of what we wanted the title to look like, as well as a breakdown of the references we were using to inspire the creation of the game.

I have also worked on the animation of this game somewhat as we found that pulling the animations straight from photoshop and putting them into Unity just led to one image displaying and so I spent a day breaking them into one PNG which displays all of the frames for our developer to turn them into animations in Unity (you can see some of them in the screenshots of the 1UP can).

I have also worked on creating but also writing and putting screenshots into this itch page. This process has been helped massively by Nina who has made the background and updated cover image for the game which allows the page to look much better then it once did.

The final major thing which I was responsible for was the creation of different pieces of the UI, such as the health bar, timer, main menu as well as a game mode selection menu which we wanted to make just in case we'd be able to fit it in in time.

Nina:

The main thing which I ended up doing for this project was the art. This is because I ended up doing everything from designing all of the different cans, to creating the banner, cover image and background art for the itch page, as well as working on the art for the stage which the game would potentially be played on. This ended up taking most of my time and was also the thing which I put the most effort into.

Another thing which I did was help come up with the genre of game which we wanted to develop. The game idea came from Streets of Rage which was my dad's favourite arcade game when I asked him. The other thing which I ended up doing was coming up with the pun names for all of the can designs which I had made. The only one which I didn't make was Spite which was Caleb's idea.

Aaron:

During this game jam I have helped with a lot of things to do with the ideation end of the development, from sketching out assets to backgrounds. I then gave these to Nina in order for them to work off of it to create some of the art. I specific, I helped ideate the inside of the fridge as well as coming up with the different items which you would be able to find within it. I also worked on the UI ideation for the game. My main idea for this would be that the health bar would look like a can with liquid in it and it would drain the more health you lose.

Bradley:

The main thing which I did to help the development of the game was work on the animations for the cans within the game. Here I worked on the death, crouch, attack and damaged animations for each can. The only issue that I hit was that I ended up exporting the animations as GIFS instead of PNG's and so Caleb came in and fixed them up

Charlie:

I have worked in Unity to code and implement the ideas designed throughout the game jam. In C#, I worked on all the code in the game as well as incorporating my own ideas to tweak elements to create a fun game. I helped out with co-ordinating efforts to re-working art, animations and gameplay. I used my own skills to help others in their tasks. Meaning that there are less delays. Due to joining the team later in development, the game is not fully finished. You will find a buggy mess that will probably not work.
